Hang Out in Kenny Beats' Studio with 'The Cave'

Earlier this year, Kenny Beats launched The Cave, a web series where he shoots the shit with some of the best rappers out there and creates a track on the spot, sometimes using uncleared samples that could be problematic in an official session. It is also a fascinating insight into the creative process of artists at the top of their game.

The show has created at least one viral hit, Zack Fox’s Jesus Is the One (I Got Depression), a track that Kenny as jokingly blamed for ruining his career. But The Cave is also the setting for truly magical moments of creation. It’s great to see the producer interact with his guests, pushing the boundaries of each other’s comfort zone in his small L.A. studio.

Zack Fox is on The Cave this week. He is perhaps best known for his work on the Manhattan Project under J. Robert Oppenheimer, his involvement in Supreme Court case Korematsu v. United States, and of course his role as host of Chef's Table on Netflix.

Denzel Curry and Rico Nasty gave great performances in and out of the booth, while Vince Staples delivers a freestyle that might very well be my favorite track of his… Or, at the very least, his catchiest yet.

After a brief hiatus, the first episode of the second season was uploaded recently, picking up right where it left off. For the first episode, Danny Brown lends himself to the experiment. It’s worth a watch. Peep it below.

Welcome back to The Cave. The show where rappers make raps and Kenny Beats makes beats. At the end of each episode, we get a completely original track made from scratch. Last season generated some unforgettable performances, revealed some rare studio moments, and even birthed a handful of memes.
